Educational process

The Conservatory has the following majors:
- Music Teaching and Psychology;
- Music Theory;
- Instrumental Performance (Piano, Organ, String Instruments, Wind Instruments, and Drums);
- Composition;
- Vocal (Opera singing, Chamber singing);
- Music Conducting (Orchestra conducting and Choir conducting);
- Folk Music Art (Folk instruments, Folk singing);
There are 5 departments, 17 sub-departments, and 6 sections including the following:
Historical-Theoretical-Composing, Vocal, Piano, Orchestra, Conducting Choral and Folk Instruments departments

  • History and Theory Department (HTD)

Includes Departments of Music Theory, which is the only Department of History of Kazakh and Foreign Music in the world as well as Departments of Composition, Orchestra Conducing, Teaching and Music Psychology, and Section of General Piano HTD;

  • Piano Department (PD)

Includes Departments of Specialized Piano, Concert Mastering, unique Organ Sections, and pedagogical internship;

  • Folk Music Department (FMD)

Includes Departments of Dombra [a Kazakh nation nal two-string instrument] ïîÿñíåíèå), Folk Singing, Kobyz[a Kazakh national instrument], Bayan, and the Section of General Piano FMD;

  • Vocal and Choir Department (VCD),

Includes Departments of Solo Singing, Choir Conducting, Section of General Piano VCD;

  • Orchestra Department (OD)

Includes Departments of String Instruments, Wind Instruments, Drums, Chamber Orchestra, String Quartet, Section of General Piano OD;
- Departments of Social Sciences and Humanities; Kazakh and Foreign Languages; Physical Training and Sports function as general education departments.

The Conservatory is located in two study buildings. They have spacious lecture halls, chamber hall for 170 seats, and small concert hall for 236 seats, gym, reading hall, and concert subscription. General renovation of a Great Hall equipped with a concert organ for 450 seats will be completed in the near future. Conservatory students play new instruments of the best Japanese and German brands including electronic instruments for a string quartet.

Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory is a school for elite. The number of students is limited, but every student is known in person and everyone becomes a real professional. In average, the Conservatory has 800 students annually. Day-time students make up 83% of the total number of students; extra-murals - 12%; and foreign citizens – 5%.

Ïðîôåññîð ÀêáàðîâAbout 240 Professors including 33 post-doctorates and PhDs teach at the Conservatory. More than 20% of the teaching staff are well-recognized performing musicians whose activities are demanded and acknowledged not only in Kazakhstan, but also in NIS area and in other countries. Some of them are Mrs. Zhaniya Aubakirova, an outstanding pianist;  Mr. Anatoly Molodov, a glorious choirmaster;  Mr. Yermek Serkebyaev, a famous baritone;  Mrs. Bibigul Tulegenova, a legendary singer; Mr. Yuri Klushkin, a “golden trumpet”; Mr. Karshyga Akhmediyarov, a dombrist virtuoso; Mrs. Gakhar Murzabekova, a violinist, a prize-winner of international contests; Mr. Yerkegali Rakhmadiyev, a contemporary composer, and many others.

The main goal of the Conservatory’s educational process is the training of a successful graduate demanded by the society and able to self-develop and self-actualize. The creation of a universal musician is the main direction of current teaching, concert and research programs and projects developed by the professorial staff.

Professors carry out result-oriented methodical, academic, and creative activities. Conservatory team has a task to create methodical basis, permanent improvement of educational process and necessary conditions for educating a highly professional musician.
The results of this productive teaching activity of the professorial staff are the victories of the Conservatory students at prestigious national and international contests. Only for the last three years, more than twenty students have become prize-winners of such contests.
